Had a few days off from work as a prop builder for an animation project at the NFTS so did some personal work.
Here's a self portrait in acrylics on canvas, been meaning to do one for a while.
And a T-shirt design for WrongWayRound promotions, an independent music promotor in Southampton.

Learning curves
I've just had my first experience of a writer/director going AWOL despite being two weeks into my preparation for a film; he was a student at the London Film School but has quit the course and disappeared. It's a shame because although the script was a total shambles it had some really promising visuals and a decent budget but the plug has officially been pulled.
The saddest part is the robot prop I'd built to be the main character's only friend is now going unused, poor fellah.

Skyborn - NFTS Graduation Film
Realised I haven't posted about any of the films I worked on this summer, and since I'm an idiot I didn't photograph the sets for my portfolio.
The best of these was definitely Skyborn, a short film about a father and son living in a fog-covered world long after the apocalypse and their attempts to build a flying machine. The set was a small stone croft designed by production design student John Merry, really good to learn how to plaster and paint a set to look organic, though we only shot in it for three days after which the art department took on the role of groundskeepers as we tried to keep 200 rolls of turf alive. Have a bunch of photos stolen off facebook:
The Croft after 3 days of plastering
And after a lick of paint under the tutelage of Cavin 'Michelangelo' Hall
The finished set
Set plus the amazing flying machine
And with the 18 space lights needed to cut through the fog
Interior of the croft
I even got a chance to act as a stunt guinea-pig to test our rigging before strapping the actor in
You can learn more about the film at: http://skybornthefilm.blogspot.com/
Other than that I also worked on 'All Men's Dead' (http://amdfilm.blogspot.com/), another grad film at the NFTS and professional independent production 'Pranks' as Art Director. I'll throw some photos up if/when I get them off the producers.

Some sketches of people's heads
I finally finished a sketchbook today so dragged my scanner out of the garage to bring you the cream of a now very smudged crop.
Last one is a 1 day acrylic of a cheerful fellah. Had a hard time explaining why I was painting him to a family friend, the short answer is I don't know.

A Quickie...
Took that design and mangled it into a t-shirt design to enter a competition run by the lovely lads at Awesome Merchandise.

Alien Attack!
I've been sketching away quietly but it's been ages since I finished a piece thanks to work. Here's an illustration for a gig poster, I prefer it like this before I cram writing all over it.

Emperor - A Work In Progress
A painting I've been working on this week while trapped in the house with Mumps, very pleased with how it's looking but I need a break before finishing. As always, acrylics on board.

Tim Dutton's Art Portfolio
So lets start this puppy.
I'm a freelance Painter and Designer who is looking to get into the film industry; my dream is to be a cinematographer. This blog is a collection of drawings and paintings I've completed recently and will act as a log of everything I produce. Thanks for visiting.
